Counting Hairs
Let's say you have a town in which there are 200,000 people.
I want to know, what are the chances that two inhabitants of that town will have exactly the same number of hairs on their heads? Now, I will stipulate that no one in this town can have more than 100,000 hairs and nobody will have fewer than zero.
So you have a town of 200,000 people. And you have heads of hair that have between zero and 100,000 hairs. So I want to know what are the chances that there are two inhabitants of this town that have exactly the same number of hairs? Not necessarily in the same place. You could have like you want hairs on the front and somebody could have eight hairs on the back and that would be a match.
My brother has written three books. The Collected Works of Thomas Q. Magliozzi, right. It's actually one book, which consists of three volumes while Volume One, Volume Two, and Volume Three.
They're on the shelf in order one, two, and three. Now a bookworm is going to eat its way from the first page of Volume One to the last page of Volume Three.
Now the pages of each of these volumes amount to three inches. So each volume has three inches of pages. And each cover is a quarter of an inch thick
He's gonna eat his wave from the first page of Volume One, the last page of Volume Three. And we want to know, the covers are a quarter of an inch thick. Each volume has three inches worth of pages. How many inches of material does this bookworm digest?
Now any fourth grader can figure this out. So if you have one, ask them!
We knew great things were in store when Chevy finally gave in and transitioned the Corvette from its conventional front-engine construction to a mid-engine format, the result of which is the all-new C8 Corvette Stingray. And unbeknownst to many, the new Corvette Z06 – mainly its naturally-aspirated, flat-plane crank V8 engine – has been right under our noses the entire time, in the form of the Chevy C8.R racing car unveiled in 2020. Old Legends & New Beginnings Now that ...

Lamborghini seems to have a bee in their bonnet about how seriously people do (or do not) take the Urus as a capable off-roader. Hey, knock it off, quit laughing! Lambo is serious about this. Darned if the Sant’Agata Bolognese company didn’t just do some serious off-roading with their SUV. So much so, Lamborghini set a personal best with its Urus, a vehicle they say combines the soul of a super sports car with the functionality of an SUV. The Air Up […] Original article: ...

The Hungry Bookworm
My brother has written three books. The Collected Works of Thomas Q. Magliozzi, right. It's actually one book, which consists of three volumes while Volume One, Volume Two, and Volume C.

It's time for the new puzzler. And as I promised this wasn't going to be as lousy as the last one.
Here it is. There is a smell that comes from modern cars that people associate with the catalytic converter. And I'm going to ask about another smell that comes from modern cars, cars with catalytic converters. So you often get this smell from cars that are equipped with catalytic converters.
But this smell is not coming from inside the converter. It has nothing to do with what's going on inside the converter.
I will give a hint. If cars of fifty years ago had catalytic converters, they would not have made the smell. The smell would not come from these cars. And it has nothing to do with the gasoline. What is the smell and what causes it?
